  • This recommended practice provides recommended design practicesand procedures for storage, location, mounting, ventilation,instrumentation, preassembly, assembly, and charging ofvalve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. Required safetypractices are also included. This recommended practice isapplicable to float-service stationary installations.

    This recommended practice contains several informative annexes.These provide additional tutorial information relating to topicsintroduced in the body of the document.

    Battery sizing, maintenance, capacity testing, chargingequipment, battery protection, and monitoring are beyond the scopeof this recommended practice. Alternative energy applications arealso beyond the scope of this recommended practice.

    The portions of this recommended practice that specificallyrelate to personnel safety are mandatory instructions and aredesignated by the word shall; all other portions arerecommended practices and are designated by the wordshould.

    Purpose

    The purpose of this document is to recommend proper installationand design procedures for users of VRLA batteries, including, butnot limited to, engineers, installers, and integrators.
